About The Low-Maintenance Pool
The Low-Maintenance Pool is an independent research publication about pool automation and smart pool equipment — robotic cleaners, salt systems, variable-speed pumps, automation controllers, and chemical monitors.
What we are
We’re researchers, not reviewers with a test pool. Every guide on this site is built from published manufacturer specifications, patterns across large volumes of owner feedback, installer pricing data, and basic physics and chemistry where they apply. When we cite a manufacturer claim, we label it as a claim. When we estimate, we label it as an estimate.
What we are not
- We don’t do hands-on testing. We say this on every page that matters, and we’ll say it here: we have not personally tested the products we cover. Any site that implies otherwise without a test facility is asking you to trust a fiction. We’d rather you trust our research process — which is documented in our editorial methodology — than a story about a robot we never owned.
- We don’t use fake authors or personas. There’s no invented “pool expert with 20 years of experience” here. The brand is the byline.
- We’re not beholden to manufacturers. We found no public affiliate programs for Maytronics (Dolphin), Pentair, Hayward, or Leslie’s, and we say so plainly. Where affiliate relationships exist — Beatbot’s direct program (~8%), Aiper (8–10%), Amazon Associates (3% in this category), each per the program’s published terms, which can change — they’re disclosed on every page that uses them and in our affiliate disclosure.
Why this site exists
Pool equipment is a high-consideration, low-information purchase. The products cost hundreds to thousands of dollars, they’re installed by dealers with pricing opacity, and most “reviews” are either manufacturer marketing or thin affiliate content. The genuinely useful questions — is a salt system worth it for my pool, cordless or corded, what does the install actually cost — get answered with decision frameworks, honest math, and disclosed uncertainty. That’s the gap we’re trying to fill.
